HAIR BY DANIEL JORDAN RICHARD JAMES LC:M SS15

RICHARD JAMES LC:M SS15
HAIR BY DANIEL JORDAN

“This season contemplates the irresistible, all-engulfing infinity of the Sahara. A discovery into the deep essence of the desert, alongside a dashing, quietly dignified band of Brits that, more than most, knew exactly how to stay cool in the heat of the moment. The collection is formed with a strong base of colours; khaki, sand, olive and beige. With piercing accents of pink, orange and cobalt, to reflect the jewel-like sharpness of the Mediterranean.”
RICHARD JAMES, DESIGNER

“The Richard James ‘Desert Rat’, has spent 3 months in the desert, so he’s a bit rugged and rough round the edges. I was inspired by young Clint Eastwood in; ‘Play Misty for Me’. It was important to work with the natural textures of their hair and keep it matte. It’s clean but not too clean.”
DANIEL JORDAN, GO 24·7 SESSION STYLIST

GET-THE-LOOK

“I prepped the hair by spraying wet and then applied GO 24·7 Hair Gel all over. I then worked the gel into the hair by rough drying with my fingers, which gives the hair height and flexibility. I made sure I worked the hair backwards, to encourage it to stay off the face and add natural height and volume. Where some of the models had a strong parting, we worked with the natural flow of their hair whilst constantly teasing it backwards. Before I applied GO 24·7 Texture Paste, I warmed the product by blasting the hairdryer into the pot for a few seconds. This technique softens the paste and prevents build up in the hair. I used a small amount of GO 24·7 Texture Paste and pulled it through the hair from front to the nape. Once I was happy with the way it had set, I roughed up the edges, to give it that ‘un-done’ finish.”

PROM HAIRSTYLES 2014 - THE HOTTEST LOOKS THIS YEAR

This curled look would complement any prom dress, and would make elaborate makeup stand out. This style is a timeless classic that will never get old!
Pin Princess Curly Hairstyles For Prom
How to Style:
1. Start with dry hair parted to the desired side.
2. Secure hair back, leaving one section out to begin curling. Spray each section with a light holding spray before curling it.
3. Curl each section with a 1 inch curling iron. When you release your hair from around the curling iron, try to avoid letting the curl drop, but rather remove the curling iron, and keep the hair curled up in a pin curl, or, if the curl falls out a bit, simply re-wind it around your finger to create a pin curl .
4. Clip the pin curl to your head so it can “set”. This can be done with a bobby pin or a pin curl clip.
5. After you have curled all of your hair, and each section is pinned up in a pin curl, allow it to stay like that for the desired amount of time. Anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours is ideal.
6. Remove each pin curl and gently twist it around your finger to re shape the curl.
7. Spray everything with a medium holding spray.
Recommended Products:
A good finishing spray is crucial to your style holding and looking great all night. I like Kenra Hairspray.
Best Face Shape and Hair Type:
This style will soften strong jaw lines and will flatter square face shapes. This style is also great for people with finer to medium hair, that doesn’t hold curl well. Creating pin curls and allowing them to set will help your hair to hold a curl better than usual

Spiritual Effect On Hairstyle

1. Introduction to the spiritual research on hair care

A person’s hairstyle is quite often regarded as one of the more important aspects of his or her appearance. People invest a lot of time in hair care and the way they style their hair for the day. At the Spiritual Science Research Foundation, through spiritual research we have found that the way we care for our hair and our hairstyles affects us at a spiritual level. In these series of articles, we will share with you some of the more important findings.

2. Spiritual research on hair

Our findings through spiritual research have shown that from a spiritual perspective hair is useful to us and with proper care and treatment we can avoid its potentially harmful aspects.

2.1 Spiritual benefits of hair

This happens in two ways:

1. Protection of voids

EyelashesThere are voids in the body such as the eye socket, the mouth and the nasal passage. These voids are mainly made up of the Absolute Cosmic Air Principle (Vāyutattva).

As negative energies and ghosts from the spiritual dimension are also mainly made up of the Absolute Cosmic Air Principle they find it easier to attack these voids. Hair helps in providing some protective covering to these voids and therefore provides a barrier to these subtle-attacks. For example:
  • Eyebrows and eyelashes protect the void in the eye socket
  • Nasal hair helps to protect the internal void of the nose and the nasal septum

2. Regulation of subtle heat

Hair on arm regulates subtle heatThe temperatures in the voids are very easily affected by the outside environment. This can affect the equilibrium of the cells in those voids. Hair helps to regulate the heat in the voids of the body which in turn help organs to operate.
At the subtle-level too, the excess heat generated in the person’s body is expelled into the environment through the hair. This excess heat can be generated due to physical, mental or spiritual distress.

2.2 Why hair can be disadvantageous to us

Ghosts can be attracted to hairHair can also be spiritually disadvantageous to us. This is because hair and nails are relatively more Raja-Tama predominant than the rest of our body. As a result of this, ghosts (demons, devils, negative energies, etc.) who are also Raja-Tama predominant find it easier to attack us through our hair. This means that the way we manage and care for our hair can either aid in negative energies affecting us or it can minimise the risk of them attacking us from the spiritual dimension.
In addition, since our hair is associated with our energy, it can also be utilised to our detriment in rituals of black magic, Voodoo, etc.

3. Practical aspects of hair care and hairstyles

In this next section we provide a few useful tips in caring for hair, gained from spiritual research. We will expand on some of these tips in different articles.

3.1 Hair tips and the result of cutting hair for women

HairtipsThis bit of spiritual research pertains to women. There is a subtle-void at the tip of the hair shaft. For uncut hair this void is very small. However when we cut our hair this void opens up to a greater extent and negative energies use this opportunity to enter the hair shaft and affect us. Cutting hair increases Raja-Tama vibrations in hair and also the environment. However from a spiritual perspective as women and men differ spiritually, for women it’s recommended to not to cut hair while for men it is recommended to have short hair. To understand this in more detail, please refer to our article on leaving hair down.
Sometimes negative energies just attach themselves onto the hair creating subtle black energy centres. From these centres they affect a person.

3.2 Styling of hair

Perfect hairbunDoing hair up in a neat bun is recommended for women as opposed to leaving hair down or in a ponytail. A bun helps to keep the tips of the hair enclosed and less prone to a subtle-attack. A bun such as the one shown on the left also attracts divine energy. This is explained in more detail in the article Bun hairstyles and their benefits.
Doing ones hair up in a braid or plait too is preferable as opposed to leaving ones hair open.

3.3 Caring for hair

Caring for hair
  • Using shampoos and other hair care products that are chemical-based are spiritually detrimental for hair. Using natural products will help.  Refer to the article on the spiritual effect of commercial shampoo.
  • It is best not to wash ones hair on full-moon or new moon nights as the environment already has a heightened Raja-Tama predominance. This increases the Raja-Tama in hair and can affect us on mental level as well.
  • Dyeing hair with chemicals as opposed to natural dyes increases the spiritual impurity in hair.
  • Perming of hair leads to negative vibrations
  • Washing hair during menses is not recommended. During menses the Raja-Tama component in women rises and as a result the attacks from the subtle can be to a greater extent.  The possibility is even greater when the hair is wet. After this period passes, hair can be washed.

3.4 Changes to hair

Causes of prematurely grey hair
  • Premature greying of hair can have its root in spiritual causes and can be a sign of spiritual distress
  • Hair getting matted can be a sign of negative energy distress

4. In summary – Spiritual effect of hair care and hairstyles

In summary there are many aspects to caring for one’s hair that can have an impact at a spiritual level. The more we understand the underlying spiritual principles and practice the most sāttvik way of caring for our hair, the less prone we will be to spiritual distress. Regular spiritual practice along with a sattvik way of life is the best way to grow spiritually and lead a more holistic life.

Hair Facts

Hair is actually dead material when it leaves its root - otherwise it would hurt very much when your hairdresser works with his scissors. Most people know that, but do you know about these facts:
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)A blonde head of hair has usually much more strands than red or dark hair heads.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)Hair consists mainly of keratin, which is also responsible for the elasticity of fingernails.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)A single hair has a thickness of 0.02 - 0.04mm, so that 20 - 50 hair strands next to each other make one millimetre.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)Hair is strong as a wire of iron. It rips after applying a force equivalent to 60kg, only after it stretched itself for about 70%.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)Even on a good hair day, everyone loses at least 40 to 100 strands.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)The average scalp has 100,000 strands, or just fewer than 1000 per square inch.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)We are born with all our hair follicles. Some are programmed to grow pigmented hair (as on our scalp) up to 3 feet in length.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)In America in '96, 38 million men and 19 million women experience common hair loss determined by heredity.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)The trait for baldness can be passed down through paternal or maternal genes.
Wh_ball.gif (967 bytes)Hormone imbalance and crash dieting can trigger temporary hair loss.
Hair care starts with washing
Pamper your hair by gentle circling movements
Whether shampoo, colour conditioner or treatment: Rinse your hair with plenty of water and make sure its not to hot
More is less, so use shampoo moderately. And your daily hair wash rule is - Only lather once!
Wet Hair
Give your hair more attention: shampooing has made it soft and extremely sensitive. Pat the wet hair carefully with a towel and dry it gently. Then wrap the towel around your hair in a turban so moisture can work into your hair for a couple of minutes
The ideal distance between your hair and the blow-dryer is 30 cm. And don't forget: medium power is the max! Remember, styling products containing little or no alcohol are kinder to your hair and keep it soft, shining and beautiful
Combing your hair properly is a matter of practice
Wet hair should be combed systematically. To do so, first disentangle it and start by combing the ends. Then, step-by-step work your way up to the hairline
Managing your hair requires different kind of combs: for wet hair you should only use combs that are softly rounded and have wide teeth
Your hair hates sharp edges, ordinary elastic bands and damaging back combing can cause long lasting damage, so avoid those stressful extremes

Cristiano Ronaldo reckons Sir Alex Ferguson will give his fashion photos the thumbs up

It's behind you! Cristiano Ronaldo gets Pant-o season under way with his CR7 underwear line
Cristiano Ronaldo reckons none other than Sir Alex Ferguson would be proud of him strutting around in his new line of branded banana hammocks.
The Real Madrid man has been looking to score off the pitch by trying his hand in the fashion trade - and he is starting at the bottom.
A range of underpants from the winking Portu-geezer have hit the shops this week and Ronaldo is quite sure what his old Manchester United boss will think of pictures of another of his former wingers in his undies.
"He’s going to love them, because he loves me. This is a fantastic man – one of the most important people I’ve met in football," he told Shortlist.com.
"I have him in my heart because part of my success is because of him. He was my father in football, so I have to appreciate what he did for me."
Ronaldo is not the first former Manchester United man to be seen lounging around in tight trunks since leaving Old Trafford.
David Beckham recently caught the eye of many with some saucy 'Becks, pecs and kecks' pics to advertise a line of skimpy pants for H&M.
And now his former rival on the pitch is treading the same well worn path of expanding his own brand that also endorses fried chicken, watches and motor oil.
He may not be the last, though, as Ronaldo believes England man Wayne Rooney is looking much better since his highly publicised hair transplant.
But the self-styled CR7 insists he will not be offering any fashion advice to the United man who has been unfairly compared to animated kiddies troll Shrek by some.
"No, he doesn’t need it," added Ronaldo. "He has his own style. But with hair he looks much better. He looks very good now. Before, he was a little bit ugly, but now, with hair, he’s beautiful."

Stem cell progeny tell their parents when to turn on

Summary:
Stem cells switch off and on, sometimes dividing to produce progeny cells and sometimes resting. But scientists don't fully understand what causes the cells to toggle between active and quiet states. New research focused on stem cells in the hair follicle to determine what switches them on. The researchers found cells produced by the stem cells, progeny known at Transit-Amplifying Cells or TACs, emit a signal that tells quiet hair follicle stem cells to become active.

Super-sonic signal: A signal from Transit-Amplifying Cells (TACs) activates stem cells in the hair follicle, researchers have found. Both types of cells appear in green (top), with TACs clustered lower down. The researchers identified the signal as Sonic Hedgehog. In experiments, such as this one (bottom), they disabled the signal, interfering with hair growth and regeneration.
Stem cells switch off and on, sometimes dividing to produce progeny cells and sometimes resting. But scientists don't fully understand what causes the cells to toggle between active and quiet states.
New research in Elaine Fuchs' Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology and Development focused on stem cells in the hair follicle to determine what switches them on. The researchers found cells produced by the stem cells, progeny known at Transit-Amplifying Cells or TACs, emit a signal that tells quiet hair follicle stem cells to become active.
"Many types of mammalian stem cells produce TACs, which act as an intermediate between the stem cells and their final product: fully differentiated cells in blood, skin and elsewhere," says Ya-Chieh Hsu, who conducted the research while as a postdoc in the lab and will soon move to Harvard University. "In the past, TACs were seen as a population of cells that sat by passively cranking out tissues. No one expected them to play a regulatory role."

In 2014, most of the boys like to carry simple easy and super short haircuts. These haircuts look trendy and stylish.
Easy hairstyles for short hair menHow to Style:
1. Get the right cut! Ask your son’s stylist or barber to use a #4 sized clipper on the back and sides and a #6 or #7 on the top then blend. You can also ask for a shorter scissor-over-comb cut on the back and sides and finger length on the top.
2. Add some style! Crunchy gels are messy and not in style anymore. Instead opt for a flexible to firm hold hair wax or pomade. Dab some on your fingers and rub onto your hands then apply to the top of the head and piece up with your fingers.
Best Face Shapes and Hair Type:
This straight hairstyle is great for boys who have a lot of cowlicks and swooping hair growth patterns. Due to the short length they will blend in so much better.

“Everyone has the potential to be beautiful with the right cut and color. It is a matter of selecting a stylist who is intuitive and has been trained to craft a hairstyle that expresses your personal style along with complimenting your lifestyle.” My hair tip? Use a t-shirt instead of a towel to sop up extra water in your hair. The thick, ridged cotton of a towel will only add extra frizz and friction to your already dry locks. Put the t-shirt on and then pull it over your head, wrapping it like a turban & knotting it around wet locks.Teen Hairstyles for Spring

Which look do you prefer?
Beards are everywhere at the moment and more and more guys out there are embracing their facial hair to create statement looks. Whatever the length, it seems that facial fuzz is here to stay. If you're planning on growing your own beard, you should also think about how you want your hair to work with it.
Checking out some different street style looks can be a great way to start and we have two great hairstyles for you, courtesy of fashion photographer Justin Wu.

Voluminous

The gentleman on the left balanced out his full beard with a high volume look. It has a really modern feel to it and the shorter sides help to create a smooth silhouette. The lighter tips on top bring a little personality to the table, making this style a memorable one! If you want something that's a little out of the ordinary but won't shock the boss, this could be just what you're looking for.
Recreate the look with a small amount of Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Hyper Fix Putty by combing it through the top and then smoothing down the sides and back.

Vintage

The guy on the right took a slightly different approach, opting for a modern rockabilly quiff. The sculpted pomp prevents the beard from overwhelming his look and the low-shine finish is a really nice touch.
Recreate the look with a small amount of Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Deconstructing Gum by working it through the longer hair on top and sculpting a pomp with your hands.

Styling Tips for Long Hair

Okay, Rapunzel — let down that hair! Here are a variety of styles for your long locks.

ByElizabeth Flahive

HAIRCUT TIPS

For some guys, a shaved head will always make sense: It looks good and they've always done it that way, they're balding and don't have a choice, or maybe they're hiding out in the jungle somewhere with only enough water to rinse and not repeat.
But if you've got hair, then you've got to figure out what to do with it. A bad haircut can make you look like a goof. The challenge for guys is that getting a good haircut can be a pain in the ass. It usually seems unjustly expensive, it's hard to know or describe what exactly you want and thehairstyle you walk out with needs to be easily reproducible. What you need are some solid haircut tips.
With this in mind, we consulted with the men's celebrity hairstylist and grooming expert for AXE, Amy Komorowski, and Rodney Cutler of Cutler/Redken salons. Between the three of us, we figured out how to get a decent haircut. Not bad.

Step 1: Choose the Right Salon

The actual number and type of hair salons out there is mind-boggling. There are traditional barbershops, fancier barbershops (like John Allan's, where you can also get a shoeshine and a massage), trendy barbershops that serve whisky and have stuffed deer mounted on the walls, salons, beauty schools and so on. Growing up, I got my hair cut at a place called Hairforce in a strip mall, and damned if I wasn't pleased 98% of the time.
Also, my mom paid. But like buying groceries, it turns out that when you have to do it on your own it's surprisingly expensive. There's been a definite trend in cities toward new-wave barbershops with a rock ‘n’ roll/woodsman/hipster vibe. Haircuts run 40 bucks or more and sometimes include a drink. This doesn't mean you won't get a good cut, but Cutler advises keeping in mind that sometimes you're paying for a brand and a message — not to mention the glass of Maker's — rather than the actual work being done.
So how to choose? “The best way to find anything is word of mouth,” Cutler says. “The problem is, it's sort of a sin for a guy to discuss his favorite hairstylist. But that's definitely the best way to do it: Find somebody whose haircut you like and shamelessly walk up to them and ask who did it.”

Step 2: Describe Your Cut

Now that you've asked another dude where he gets his hair cut, let's go one step further with our haircut tips by going into territory you don't want to explore: Bringing a picture to the salon. Cutler agrees that most guys will try to explain their desired cut rather than bring in a picture of George Clooney. At the same time, guys are particular about their hair. So you've got a choice between getting out of your comfort zone and learning to describe what you want. “Showing the styling in a picture is really the best way to avoid confusion and communicate your desired look,” Komorowski says. “It alleviates any questions about length and style.” We leave that decision to you.
Cutler says that a lot of guys have been asking for the Ashton Kutcherlook — a bit messy and shaggy with heavy layering. "Lots of layers, a bit of length — sort of that understated, done-undone style.” Just make sure it doesn't look too symmetrical or you'll look like Nicolas Cage in Ghost Rider.

HAIRGROWTH TIPS

"We didn't ask about the teenie-weenie Afros because a couple of years ago people weren't talking about them the way they are today," Roberts said, adding that the firm plans to ask about the style in this year's survey.
Throughout history, long hair has been viewed as a marker of beauty and femininity among various cultures. But length has been elusive for some black women, whose hair texture can range from straight to wavy to curly to kinky, because the natural coil of the hair makes it appear shorter.
Women who have desired longer hair have depended on hair straightening products, hot combs, flat irons, weaves, extensions and wigs.
Frances Simmons, a natural hair care professional who visits public schools in Chicago to talk to students about proper hair care, said she's not against women getting weaves or extensions that are woven in properly. But too many girls are getting them at a very young age and at the expense of healthy hair and a healthy self-image.
"I've met a lot of girls who prefer some type of hair contraption, rather than their own because they feel hair has to be long to be beautiful," Simmons said. "It doesn't matter if the fake hair is matted and cheap and braids (are) falling off. What does that say about our self-esteem and self-worth?"
Lanita Jacobs, a University of Southern California associate professor of anthropology and American studies and ethnicity, has written about the politics of black hair and why length and texture matter so much to women of color in this country and around the world.

SOME MIND BLOWING HAIRSTYLES OF BOLLYHOOD ACTORS

The word Bollywood is an amalgamation of Bombay and Hollywood. As the world's largest film industry in terms of movies produced, Bollywood is a massive pop-culture phenomenon rooted in India, but popular globally. The faces of Bollywood are constantly in the limelight on the subcontinent and elsewhere. Like Hollywood stars, Bollywood actors and actresses do their best to set and keep up with trends in hairstyles, while taking pride in their thick, dark manes.

Women's Hair Down

  • A number of female Bollywood stars from times past and present prefer simple classic looks with a few modern flourishes when they wear their hair down. Long hair that is simply cut and layered carries a timeless look that is easy to make modern and edgy with the angles of the layers. Highlights for long, layered looks give the hair depth, volume, and complexity that is also modern and interacts well with light and cameras. Bollywood stars wear the long, layered, and down look with and without bangs, straight and with voluminous waves. Bollywood actresses rarely cut their hair shorter than shoulder length.

Women's Hair Up

  • A number of Bollywood actresses wear their hair up and down, calling for a number of styles for different occasions. Tight buns are popular with Bollywood actresses who wear their hair up. The hair on top of the head is pulled back into the bun, though fashioned into a side part and often pulled at an angle to the side of the head, then back, rather than straight back. This type of bun creates a pixyish look coupled with the traditional elegance of long hair. Many younger Bollywood starlets untuck strands from their buns for a more spontaneous, unkempt look.

Men's Hair Short

  • Most leading men in Bollywood keep their hair cropped. Popular cropped hairstyles for Bollywood actors include the traditional crop, which is short hair of uniform length. The razor crop is similarly short hair that is shorn with a razor in places for a more dynamic look. Razor crops often balance the buzz with jagged bangs. The shaggy crop is another popular short hair cut for Bollywood men. It's a longer cut than the traditional crop, and not entirely uniform in length. The shaggy crop looks unkempt and as such is more than not referred to as bed head.

Men's Hair Long

  • Bollywood actors with longer hair prefer a voluminous and wavy look. Male stars with long hair most often have a layered look that is shorter in the front and longer in the back, though gradual enough in its gradations to not be a mullet. Layered and lengthy cuts are considered classy and elegant in the world of Bollywood. Medium-length long hair, which is long enough to reach a man's jaw but not longer, is an in-between look that marries the hipness of the shaggy crop and the classy look of the long, layered cut.

HAIRTYLE

INTRODUCTION TO THE BEEHIVE                                                                                                                                                                  The Beehive is a woman's hairstyle in which long hair is piled up in a conical shape on the top of the head and slightly backwards pointing, giving some resemblance to the shape of a traditional beehive. It originated as one of a variety of elaborately teased and lacquered versions of "big hair" that developed from earlier pageboy and bouffant styles. It was developed in 1960 by Margaret Vinci Heldt of Elmhurst, Illinois, owner of the Margaret Vinci Coiffures in downtown Chicago, who won the National Coiffure Championship in 1954, and who had been asked by the editors of Modern Beauty Salon magazine to design a new hairstyle that would reflect the coming decade.[1][2] She originally modeled it on a fez-like hat that she owned. In recognition of her achievement, Cosmetologists Chicago, a trade association with 60,000 members, created a scholarship in Heldt’s name for creativity in hairdressing.[1] The beehive style was popular throughout the 1960s, particularly in the United States and other Western countries, and remains an enduring symbol of 1960s                                                                                                                                             INTRODUCTION TO THE TERM
A permanent wave, commonly called a perm or "permanent", involves the use of chemicals to break and reform the bonds of the hair. The hair is washed and wrapped on a perm rod and waving lotion is applied with a base. This solution creates a chemical reaction that softens the inner structure of the hair by breaking some of the cross links within and between the protein chains of the hair. The hair swells, stretches and softens, then molds around the shape of the perm rod.[1]
In addition, the term is often used for the process of chemical hair straightening, or relaxing (a process first developed by Renaud Whittington). This process makes use of the same chemical reactions as that of the permanent wave, but the hair is combed straight rather than wrapped around perm rods.

First Prize won at the Hairdressing Fashion Show London, 1935, using an Icall permanent-waving machine. The hair is shorter even than in the 1920s and curls/waves are restricted to the back and sides, revealing the ears and neck. The colors were achieved by adding pigments to the setting lotion.
